Beautiful vintage bread board.
Traditionally, one side is for the slicing of bread etc., hence the ears of wheat carved into the rim, and the other for the chopping and preparation of vegetables - and sometimes for carving meat.
That way, the bread is not tainted by impregnated odours or fats etc. that may have been on the veggie side (think onions and garlic!)
Perfect Set, Prop or decorator/interior design piece.
Has been well used and thus has such a beautiful patina and has knife orders marks etc.
Such a lovely grain to the wood, which I believe to be pine or similar.
The board is ovate in shape, and not perfectly level, so can wobble a tiny bit should one use it for its's original purpose.
I wonder what stories this aged board could tell us?
Many, no doubt! After All, the kitchen is the hub of the home and always has been!
Such a gorgeous patina and lovely warm brown colour.
