Rare Art Deco 1930s Sunbeam Toaster, Model T-7, Flexible Shaft Company, Made In Canada, Original Cloth Cord.

Early chrome-plated Sunbeam brand two slice toaster, with orders typical engraved art-deco styled designs up the sides. This scarce model T-7 includes a full bakelite wrap-around base, as well as bakelite handles and side toast-adjust dial. It also has a unique 'lighted jewel' feature on the side which glows bright orange when the toaster is engaged (works, see photo #8)..

Made in Canada by the "Flexible Shaft Company". At the time "Sunbeam" was still just a brand name. American-made T-7 models are stamped "Chicago Flexible Shaft".

Bottom is stamped "Sunbeam. Flexible Shaft Co. Ltd., Toronto Canada. Model T-7. Design Pat. 98247. Volts 110-120. Watts 875". This design patent 98247 (known as USD98247S) was granted in 1936.

Cloth cord is original and in great condition.

Toaster measures approx. 9" x 8" x 6".

WORKING, SORT OF: Toaster gets power just fine, but the elements are slow to heat up and don't get too hot (but the coils do get somewhat red, see photo #9). But it will create toast, however it's not a toaster for everyday use (or any modern use, for that matter). We're not sure if it's supposed to 'pop up' via a timed spring when the plunger is pushed down, but this toaster does NOT automatically pop up. The handle needs to be manually raised to release the toast. Lastly, the light/dark adjustment dial just spins and spins, and doesn't seem to affect the lightness or darkness of the toast. SOLD AS-IS.

CONDITION: Minor scratches & scuffs, some areas of slight peeling/wear to chrome plating around the bread slots (see photo #9). There's two hairline cracks to the bakelite base, both are quite hard to see (photo #10, bottom). We've come across a few other T-7 specimens and they too have the same cracks.
