Large, Tribal, Ifugao, Rattan, Basket, Woven, Benaue, Philippines orders - 1940s-50s, Hand-crafted, Antique

This is a beautifully designed, large, handcrafted rattan basket made by the Ifugao tribe in the Banaue region of the Ifugao province in the Philippines. It was skillfully woven with strips of tropical palm leaf fibre, including tapered pieces on a square base. An external band of 3 twisted round reeds is attractively suspended by 4 braided strips of tropical fibres along the sides to create a stable structure. This is a general purpose basket, possibly used for food storage and transportation, showing only modest signs of wear, and no actual damage.

Condition: Some signs of wear due to age yet no damage.
